Captain Ferdinand Sophus Winslow (1829 - 1885) diente während des Amerikanischen Bürgerkriegs und spielte eine Schlüsselrolle im Transport von Baumwolle auf dem Mississippi. In Bezug auf Finanzen war sein ethisches Handeln jedoch äußerst fragwürdig - und so brachten ihn seine Spekulationen auch ins Kopenhagener Gefängnis, wo er eine vierjährige Haftstrafe wegen Betrugs und Veruntreuung absitzen musste. Nach seiner Freilassung begann er im Jahr 1865 mit kleineren Finanzgeschäften, weitete seine Operationen stetig aus. 1872 gründete er schließlich in Chicago die Scandinavian National Bank, die recht schnell das Vertrauen der Norweger, Schweden und Dänen gewann. Es dauerte allerdings nur bis zum Dezember des selben Jahres, bis ein Artikel in der Chicago Daily Tribune Betrügereien des Managements aufdeckte - und die Bank daraufhin zusammenbrach. | |||

Ferdinand Sophus Winslow (1829 - 1885) was a Civil War army Captain and played a key role in the river transportation of cotton. He obviously had questionable ethics regarding finances and some of his cotton speculations led him to a Copenhagen jail to serve a four-year sentence for fraud and embezzlement. After his release he opened a small financial business in 1865 - and soon began to expand his financial operations. In 1872, he founded the Scandinavian National Bank in Chicago, which gained the trust of Norwegians, Swedes and Danes quite fast. It took only until December the same year, when a Chicago Daily Tribune story strongly indicated fraudulent management and the bank finally crashed. | |||
