Robert Fleming (1845 - 1933) war ein schottischer Finanzier und 1873 der Gründer von Robert Fleming & Co., einer im Assetmanagement tätigen Londoner Handelsbank, die im Jahr 2000 dann an die Chase Manhattan Bank verkauft wurde. Als Zeitgenosse von J. Pierpont Morgan und enger Geschäftspartner und Freund von Jacob H. Schiff war Fleming in Finanzkreisen auf beiden Seiten des Atlantiks bestens bekannt. Er war 1876 maßgeblich für die finanzielle Umstrukturierung der Erie Railway verantwortlich, gleiches gilt für zahlreiche andere nordamerikanischen Eisenbahngesellschaften. Sein Erfolg zog natürlich immer mehr Investoren an. Nachdem er 1886 auch den gegen Jay Gould geführten Kampf um die Kontrolle der Texas & Pacific Railway gewonnen hatte, soll seine Kapitalrendite der Investments in US-Eisenbahnen bei 40 % gelegen haben. | |||

Robert Fleming (1845 - 1933) was a Scottish financier and founder of Robert Fleming & Co., a London based asset manager and merchant bank founded in 1873 and sold to Chase Manhattan Bank in 2000. Being a contemporary of J. Pierpont Morgan and a close business associate and friend of Jacob H. Schiff, Fleming was widely known and respected in financial circles on both sides of the Atlantic. While representing the bondholders committee of the Erie Railway in 1876 Fleming was mainly responsible for the financial reorganisation of the railroad. He was further involved in the successful restructuring of numerous other North American railroads in the 1870s. His success drew more and more investors. After winning the 1886 battle with Jay Gould for control of the Texas & Pacific Railway it is said he would have made a 40 % return on investments in US railroads. | |||
