| Das Theater eröffnete in New York mit Schauspielern vom Conservatoire de Paris und Sarah Bernhardt, der berühmtesten Darstellerinnen des 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhunderts. Sarah Bernhardt wurde zudem President der Gesellschaft. Theodore Roosevelt jr., Sohn des gleichnamigen US-Präsidenten, war Soldat und kämpfte im Ersten Weltkrieg in Frankreich. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg war er der einzige General, der bei der Landung in der Normandie in der ersten Welle dabei war. Er starb wenige Monate später in der Normandie im Alter von 56 Jahren an einem Herzinfarkt. Cornelius Vanderbilt war im Ersten Weltkrieg Colonel in Frankreich und später General. Roosevelt und Vanderbilt haben als erste den großen, in Frankreich angerichteten Schaden gesehen. Nach dem Ersten Weltkriegs haben sie gemeinsam alles Französische in ihrer Heimat promoted. | ||||
| The theatre opened in New York with actors from the Paris Conservatoire, and Sarah Bernhardt as chief patron. Sarah Bernhardt, born of French Jewish parents, was the world’s most famous actress in the 19th and the early 20th centuries. Roosevelt, a brave soldier and son of the President of the same name, fought in France in WW1 (a bemedalled colonel) and WW2 - the only general to land on the Normandy beaches in the first wave, aged 56, he died of a heart attack in Normandy one month later. Vanderbilt was also a colonel in France in WW1 and later a general. Roosevelt and Vanderbilt saw at first hand the huge damage done to France and its young people in WW1 and joined together after the war to promote all things French. | ||||
