The history of the Bank of China began in 1905, when the Qing government established Daquing Hubu Bank. This was renamed in Da-
quing Bank in 1908. When the Republic of China was established in 1912, the name was changed to Bank of China by Sun Yat-sen’s go-
vernment, adding a new role of the central bank. It issued banknotes on behalf of the Government until 1942. It is the oldest bank in
mainland China still in existence. The bank was split into two operations after the Chinese Civil War ended in 1949. The part in Taiwan
was privatised as International Commercial Bank of China in 1971, and the Mega International Commercial Bank later. The mainland
operation is the current entity known as the Bank of China. It is one of the largest banks in the world.

Die Wurzeln der Bank of China liegen in der 1905 von der Qing Dynastie gegründeten Daquing Hubu Bank. Diese wurde 1908 in Da-
quing Bank umbenannt. Als die Volksrepublik China 1912 gegründet wurde, änderte die Regierung von Sun Yat-sen den Namen in
Bank of China. Der Bank wurde die neue Rolle als Notenbank übertragen. Dieses Privileg hatte sie bis 1942 inne. Es ist die älteste Bank
auf dem chinesischen Festland. Nach dem Ende des chinesischen Bürgerkriegs im Jahr 1949 wurde die Bank in zwei Teile aufgeteilt.
Der in Taiwan gelegene Teil wurde 1971 als International Commercial Bank of China privatisiert und 1971 und ging später in der Mega
International Commercial Bank auf. Die auf dem Festland gelegenen Niederlassungen bildeten die heutige Bank of China. Diese ist ei-
ner der größten Banken weltweit.
