Die heutige Form des Stierkampfes gibt es seit dem frühen 18. Jahrhundert. Die erste Stierkampfarena wurde im Jahr 1749 gebaut. König Karl IV. verbot zeitweise den Stierkampf. Sein Nachfolger Ferdinand VII. erlaubte ihn jedoch wieder. Die Regeln für den Stierkampf wurden erstmals im Jahr 1796 vom Matador José Delgado in der Schrift Tauromaquia beschrieben. Nach diesen Regeln wird im Wesentlichen auch heute noch der spanische Stierkampf durchgeführt. Die erste Schule für Stierkampf wurde 1830 von Pedro Romero in Sevilla eröffnet.

In the early 18th century today’s form of bull fighting was introduced. The first bullfighting arena was built up in 1749. King Karl IV prohibited the bullfight for a short time. But his successor Ferdinand VII permitted it again. The bullfighting rules were firstly described by Matador José Delgado in the script Tauromaquia in 1796. Even nowadays the Spanish bull fight is basically conducted according to these rules. The first school for bull fights was founded in 1830 by Pedro Romero in Sevilla.
