 Die Firma ging 1896 aus der Peugeot Fréres hervor und produzierte zunächst Fahrräder. Nach Panhard & Levassor begann Armand Peugeot 1889 als zweiter in Frankreich mit dem Bau von Automobilen nach Daimler-Lizenz. 1899 produzierte das Unternehmen die für die damalige Zeit riesige Stückzahl von 300 Autos pro Jahr. Auftrieb erfuhr die Gesellschaft durch die Mitarbeit von Ettore Bugatti. 1974 erfolgte die Übernahme von Citroën über deren Hauptaktionär Michelin.

 In 1896 the company emanated from Peugeot Fréres and at first produced bicycles. After Panhard & Levassor, Armand Peugeot was the second manufacturer in France to start out with the construction of automobiles in 1889. In 1899 the company produced the at the time immense number of 300 cars per year. The cooperation of Ettore Bugatti provided an upswing to the business. In 1974 Citroën was acquired via their principal shareholder Michelin.
