 Die unglückliche Beteiligung Spaniens am ersten Koalitionskrieg 1793 und der daraufhin ausgebrochene Krieg mit England (Niederlage bei Trafalgar 1805) sowie der Familienzwist zwischen Carl IV. und Ferdinand VII., das Eingreifen Napoleons sowie der Aufstand von Wien brachten den Staat an den Rand des Ruins. So entschloss sich der König, das Papiergeld in festverzinsliche Staatsanleihen umzuwandeln, die in das große Buch der konsolidierten Schuld eingetragen wurden.

 The unhappy participation of Spain in the first Coalition War in 1793 and the subsequent war against England (defeat at Trafalgar in 1805) as well as the family feud between Carl IV and Ferdinand III, Napoleon's intervention as well as the insurrection of Vienna brought the state in a serious calamity. As a consequence the king decided to convert the paper money in fixed interest-bearing government bonds that were registered in the big book of consolidated debts.
