President. Hopkinson war Kongressabgeordneter von Pennsylva-
nia und diente später als Bundesrichter. Rarität!
Die Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts ist das älteste Kunst-
museum und die älteste Kunstschule in den USA. Sie wurde
1805 auf Initiative von Charles Willson Peale von 71 Bürgern der
Stadt Philadelphia gegründet. Das Museum ist weltweit berühmt
für seine Sammlungen amerikanischer Kunst (Gemälde, Skulp-
turen, Arbeiten auf Papier) des 19. Und 20. Jahrhunderts. In den
Archiven finden sich wichtige Zeugnisse der amerikanischen
Kunstgeschichte. In den Jahren 1811 bis 1969 veranstaltete die
Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts jährliche Kunstausstel-
lungen. Viele der ausgestellten Werke erwarb die Akademie
selbst. Heute können Studenten an der Akademie den Abschluss
Bachelor of Fine Arts der University of Pennsylvania sowie den
Master of Fine Arts erwerben.

was Congressman from Pennsylvania and served as a federal

The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is the oldest art mu-
seum and the oldest art school in the United States. It was foun-
ded by the initiative of Chalres Willson Peale by 71 inhabitants of
the city of Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) in 1805. The academy‘s
museum is internationally known for its collections of 19th and
20th century American paintings, sculptures and works on paper.
Its archives own important materials for the study of American
art history, museums, and art training. From 1811 to 1969, the
Academy also organized important annual art exhibitions from
which significant acquisitions were made. Nowadays, students at
the Academy can achieve the Bachelor of Fine Arts of the Univer-
sity of Pennsylvania and the Master of Fine Arts.
