History (English) |
The Selma and Gulf Railroad Company was founded in 1866 to built a railway from Selma (Alabama) to Pollard (Alabama). It was planned to connect the 100 miles of railway track to the networks of the Selma, Rome and Dalton Railroad Company, the Selma and Meridan Railroad, the Pensacola and Louisville Railroad and to the lines of the Montgomery and Mobile Railroad. This would have created a direct connection in north-south-direction through the mining area of Alabama to the Gulf of Mexico. The company was reorganized as Pensacola and Selma Railroad Company at the end of the 1870th. This company was taken over by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company in 1880.
