Geschichte
 Der Zoo-Park der englischen Stadt Manchester wurde im Jahr 1836 von John Jennison in Verbindung mit einer Gaststätte gegründet. Nach seinem Tod blieben beide Einrichtungen bis zur Übernahme durch die Privatgesellschaft Belle Vue Ltd. im Jahr 1925 innerhalb der Familie. Während der 1960er Jahre übernahm der Trust House-Fortes, ein Konzern, der wegen seiner luxuriösen Hotels bekannt war, den Zoo-Park. Die neuen Direktoren hatten weniger Interesse an den Tieren als an dem 28 ha großen, potentiellen Bauland, welches drei Meilen vom Zentrum Manchesters entfernt lag. Sehr überraschend wurde im Sommer 1977 die Schließung des Zoologischen Gartens bekanntgegeben, was große Proteste in der Bevölkerung hervorrief. Es wurden verzweifelte Versuche unternommen, den Zoo-Park zu erhalten, indem Petitionen an das Parlament gerichtet und umfangreiche Spendenaktionen durchgeführt wurden. Leider waren alle diese Versuche zum Scheitern verurteilt. Der Belle Vue Zoo Park wurde von der Bevölkerung uneingeschränkt geliebt. Für über 130 Jahre hatte die Einrichtung eine wichtige Rolle im sozialen Leben im Nordwesten von England gespielt. Die ärmeren Einwohner der Stadt hatten dort beispielsweise ihre nur einen Tag dauernden "Ritterwochen" verbracht, denn es war ein heller, freundlicher Ort in der ansonsten schmutzig-rußigen Industrielandschaft. Geschichte (Englisch)
 John Jennison founded the Zoo Park in 1836 in combination with a restaurant in the English City of Manchester. Both, garden and restaurant, stayed in the family possession until they were bought in 1925 by a private company Belle Vue Ltd. In the 1960's the Trust House-Fortes, well known for its magnificent hotels, took over the Belle Vue Zoo Park. The directory was intent upon development of the 69.16 acres near Manchester and had no intention of carrying on with the zoo. In the summer of 1977 many citizens were angered by the decision to close the zoological garden. There were many protests and several desperate attempts to save the park.
