Gustavus Tuckerman sen. (1785 - 1860) war ein Kaufmann aus Boston, der regelmäßig nach Europa reiste. 1809 war er einer der Gründer der Massachusetts Bible Society, einer christlich-ökumenischen Organisation, die sich der Verbreitung wie auch dem Verständnis von biblischer Literatur und dem Dialog darüber widmete. Die – hinter den entsprechenden Vereinigungen aus Philadelphia und Connecticut – drittälteste Bibelgesellschaft der USA setzte dabei auf Kolporteure, die – im Sinne von Hausierern – den Staat mit von Pferden gezogenen Wagen bereisten oder am Hafen von Boston auf die neuen Einwanderer warteten. Gustavus Tuckerman jun. (1824 - 1897) war ebenfalls Kaufmann in Boston. Er war Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts überwiegend als Kommissionär im Handel mit Indien und China tätig. | |||

Gustavus Tuckerman, Sr. (1785 - 1860) was a Boston hardware merchant, who made frequent trips to Europe. In 1809, he was one of the founders of the Massachusetts Bible Society, a Christian ecumenical organisation dedicated to promoting Biblical literacy, understanding and dialogue. Being the third oldest Bible Society in the United States (following the Philadelphia and the Connecticut society), its goals were achieved through colporteurs who travelled the state in horse-drawn wagons and visited the immigrant population at the Boston docks. Gustavus Tuckerman, Jr. (1824 - 1897) was a Boston commission merchant involved in the India and China trade during the mid-nineteenth century. | |||
