Salomon Gessner published his first newspaper named Zürcher Zeitung on 12 January 1780. It is today the oldest still existing newspa-

per in Switzerland. The name was changed to Neue Zürcher Zeitung in 1821. The joint-stock-company, which published the daily news-

paper still nowadays, was founded in 1868. The exceptional construction: Not even one of the 1,400 shareholders owns more than 1 per

cent of the share capital. Furthermore only Swiss citizens with a liberal political attitude are allowed as shareholders. In the statutes, da-

ted 16 March 1906, it is regulated, that no single shareholder is allowed to own more than 25 shares. The share capital was 300,000

Swiss Francs at that time.

Am 12. Januar 1780 brachte Salomon Gessner die Zeitung erstmals unter dem Namen Zürcher Zeitung heraus. Sie ist damit die älteste

heute noch erscheinende Zeitung der Schweiz. Seit 1821 lautete der Name Neue Zürcher Zeitung. Im Jahr 1868 wurde dann die Aktien-

gesellschaft gegründet, welche die Zeitung bis heute noch herausgibt. Das Besondere daran: Keiner der 1.400 Aktionäre besitzt mehr als

1 Prozent des Aktienkapitals. Zudem sind nur Schweizer Bürger mit entsprechend liberaler Gesinnung als Aktionäre zugelassen. In den

Statuten vom 16. März 1906 heißt es: „Kein Aktionär darf mehr als 25 Aktien besitzen“. Das Grundkapital betrug seinerzeit 300.000

Schweizer Franken.

12. Januar 1780 heraus.
