In 1785, the Real Compañia Guipuzcoana de Caracas was assumed by Real Compañia de Filipinas. The Spanish trading company was founded to export various goods to the colonies. The company should also help to import silver. It was granted a free trade licence for China and India. In September 1789, the monopole was discontinued after the free trade agreement for foreign textiles was promulgated. There was an attempt to liquidate the company, but it failed because of the resistance of the share holders. In 1834, the company had to call in the receiver.
