 Claus Spreckels (1828-1908) wanderte während des Goldrausches von Hannover in die USA aus. Später besaß er für drei Jahrzehnte das Zuckermonopol an der Westküste und erhielt den Spitznamen The Sugar King.

 During the gold rush years, Claus Spreckels (1828-1908) emigrated from Hannover, Germany, to the USA. Later-on he held the monopoly for sugar on the West Coast and was nick-named the Sugar King.
