31.05.1832, 1 Share of Bank Capital Stock á £ 100, #149, 10,8 x 22,2 cm, schwarz, beige, Erhaltung VF, auf Tierhaut gedruckt, Original-Signaturen, ausgestellt auf Samuel Terry, R8. Samuel Terry (1776 - 1838) wurde als Strafgefangener (Er hatte in England 400 Paar Socken gestohlen und wurde für sieben Jahre deportiert.) nach Australien verfrachtet. Dort brachte er es zu einem vermögenden Grundbesitzer, Händler und Philanthropen. Er war der reichste Mann in der ganzen Kolonie. Bei seinem Tod wurde sein Vermögen auf 200.000 Pfund geschätzt. | |||

31 May 1832, 1 Share of Bank Capital Stock á £ 100, #149, 10.8 x 22.2 cm, black, beige, condition VF, printed on vellum, original signatures, issued to Samuel Terry, R8. Samuel Terry (1776 - 1838) was an ex-convict who had been deported, for 7 years, because he had stolen 400 pairs of socks in England. He was transported to Australia, where he became a wealthy landowner, merchant and philanthropist. His extreme wealth made him by far the richest man in the colony. Terry’s estate at his death was valued at £ 200,000. | |||

Die Bank of New South Wales wurde 1817 in Sydney gegründet. Sie war die erste Bank Australiens. Edward Smith Hall war der erste Kassier und Secretary der Bank. Das Kreditinstitut eröffnete im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert Niederlassungen in Australien und Ozeanien. 1927 wurde die Western Australian Bank und 1931 die Australian Bank of Commerce übernommen. 1982 fusionierte die Bank mit der Commercial Bank of Australia zur Westpac Banking Corporation. Heute zählt Westpac zu den vier großen Finanzhäusern Australiens. | |||

The Bank of New South Wales was established in Sydney in 1817. It was the first bank in Australia. Edward Smith Hall was the first cashier and secretary of the bank. The bank opened branches first throughout Australia and Oceania during the 19th and 20th century. It acquired the Western Australian Bank in 1927 and the Australian Bank of Commerce in 1931. The bank merged with the Commercial Bank of Australia to form Westpac Banking Corporation in 1982. Westpac is one of Australia’s Big Four Banks. | |||
