 Samuel Insull (1859-1938) war im Top-Management der Edison Industrial Holdings, bevor er zum maßgeblichen Mann der städtischen Betriebe von Chicago aufstieg. Durch die Installation eines gigantischen Schachtelaufsichtsrates kontrollierte Insull schließlich ein Achtel der Stromversorgung der Vereinigten Staaten. Er hatte in 65 Gesellschaften die Funktion des Präsidenten und in weiteren 85 eine Direktorenposition. 1932 brach sein Imperium zusammen. Die Pleite der Insull Utility im Gefolge des Schwarzen Freitags trieb Insull in den Ruin und brachte ihn ins Gefängnis.

 Samuel Insull (1859-1938) was employed in the top management of the Edison Industrial Holdings prior to rising to the leading man of the urban operation of Chicago. With the installation of a gigantic supervisory board of an affiliated company, Insull finally supervised an eighth of the power supply in the United States of America. He assumed the function of president in 65 companies and a position in the board in 85 additional companies. His empire collapsed in 1932. The bankruptcy of the Insull Utility in the wake of Black Friday ruined Insull and made him end up in prison.
