Die Alliance Marine Assurance Company wurde 1824 als Schwestergesellschaft der Alliance British and Foreign Life and Fire Assurance Company gegründet. Initiatoren der Gründung waren Nathan Meyer Rothschild und sein Schwager Sir Moses Haim Montefiore, 1st Baronet. Die Gesellschaft wurde zur Übernahme von maritimen Risiken, die zuvor von Lloyd’s abgelehnt worden sind, gegründet. Lloyd’s war gleichzeitig auch einer der größten Aktionäre der Gesellschaft. Neben dem Seeversicherungsgeschäft, Feuer- und Lebensversicherung gaben die Alliance Insurance und Alliance Marine Annuitäten aus und boten Ausstattungsversicherungen für Kinder an. 1959 fusionierte die Gesellschaft mit der Sun Insurance Company, welche 1996 sich wiederum mit der Royal Insurance Company zur Royal & Sun Alliance zusammenschloss. Seit 2008 tritt die Gesellschaft als RSA Insurance Group auf. Nathan, der drittälteste Sohn von Mayer Amschel Rothschild, gilt bis heute als größtes Finanz- und Geschäftsgenie der Familie und der damaligen Zeit überhaupt. 1796 ging er nach Manchester und gründete eine Handelsfirma, die auch als Agent für die Frankfurter Rothschilds fungierte. Seine große Chance eröffnete sich durch die Kontinentalsperre ab 1806, die zu einer großen Kostensteigerung im Im-/Exportgeschäft führte. Nathan baute ein großes Schmuggelnetz von Großbritannien aus auf, mit dem er die Waren auf den Kontinent brachte und weitertransportierte. 1815 war Nathan M. Rothschild die reichste Person in Großbritannien. | |||

The Alliance Marine Assurance Company was founded as a sister company of the Alliance British and Foreign Life and Fire Assurance Company in 1824. Nathan Meyer Rothschild and his brother in law Sir Moses Haim Montefiore, 1st Baronet, were the major promoters of the company. It was founded for the purpose of carrying out marine insurance business, after objections from a Lloyd’s underwriter, one of the Alliance’s shareholders. In addition to marine, fire and life insurance the Alliance Insurance and Alliance Marine granted annuities, endowments for infants and benefits. The company merged with the Sun Insurance Company in 1959, and, in 1996, this entity merged with the Royal Insurance Company to produce Royal & Sun Alliance. It was renamed to RSA Insurance Group in 2008. Nathan, the thirdoldest son of Mayer Amschel Rothschild, is considered as the biggest finance and business genius of the family, and of its time in general. He moved to Manchester in 1796, and founded a trading company. The company also worked as agent for the Rothschild family in Frankfurt on Main. He took the big chance, when the Continental System was introduced in 1806, which let to increasing costs in the import and export business. Nathan installed from Great Britain a large network of smugglers, transported the commodities to the continent and transported it further. Nathan M. Rothschild was the wealthiest men in Great Britain in 1815. | |||
