With the signature of Walter Schloss R12! Walter Schloss was born in Manhattan as son of a Jewish merchant family in 1916. His family lost their estate in the stock market crash of 1929. In 1935, he started work as a runner on Wall Street for a New York investment company. Schloss took investment courses taught by Graham at the New York Stock Exchange Institute. After serving at the army in World War II, Schloss started working for Ben- jamin Graham’s Company Graham-Newmann Corporation in 1946, where he shared an office with Warren Buffett. Graham-Newman Corporation was incorporated by Benjamin Graham and Jerome Newman in 1936. It existed until 1956. Walter Schloss started his own business, shortly before Graham-Newman Corporation was closed. Schloss achived a performance far better than the S&P 500 Index un- til his fund was closed in 2002. Warren Buffett named Walter Schloss as one of The Superinvestors of Graham-and-Doddsville, who dis- proved the academic position that the market is efficient, and that beating the S&P 500 was pure chance. Buffett held the presentation at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the publishing date of Benjamin Grahams legendary book Security Analyses. In this speech, Buffett named several very successful investors, which all were educated by Benjamin Graham. Walter Schloss died in New York at age of 95 years on 19 February 2012.
