The Railway was built from the Great Western Railway Company's station at Bath (in Bath and North East Somerset) to the station at Newbury (in West Berkshire). Several viaducts, raising and lowering of roads as well as diversions of the Kennet and Avon Canal were undertaken for its construction. The Kennet and Avon Canal is a Narrowboat-Canal in southern England. The canal runs in West-East-Direction and links the rivers Avon and Kennet and therefore the Bristol Canal with the Thames. Together with the rivers it creates a continuous East-West-Waterway in southern England.
