An Apprenticeship Indenture was a legal document binding a child to a master for seven or more years. The master agreed to train the child in his trade or profession and to supply it with appropriate food, clothing and lodging for the duration of the apprenticeship. He received a sum of money as a premium or - in case of a parish apprenticeship for poor children - no premium was paid.
