Die Bank wurde 1592 von einer Wohltätigkeitsorganisation gegründet und nach Sankt Eligius benannt. Er ist der Patron der Schmiede und Goldschmiede. 1794 ging die Bank in der Banco Nazionale di Napoli auf. Aus ihr wurde später die Banco di Napoli.
The bank was founded in 1592 by a charity organisation. It was named after Saint Eligius, patron of blacksmiths and goldsmiths. It merged with other bank to form the Banco Nazionale di Napoli in 1794. This bank was later renamed to Banco di Napoli.
