Die Gesellschaft wurde 1903 im Zuge der Fusion der drei traditionsreichen Lokomotivfabriken Dubs & Co., Neilson Reid & Co. und Sharp Stewart & Co. gegründet. Bis 1914 war die North British Locomotive Co. die größte Lokomotivfabrik in Europa. 1963 wurde die Gesellschaft liquidiert.
In 1903 the company was founded by a merger of the famous locomotive builders Dubs & Co., Neilson Reid & Co. and Sharp Stewart & Co. Then the new formed North British Locomotive Co. was the biggest locomotive building factory until the year of 1914. In 1963 the company was liquidated.
