A Girl from Rio" eröffnet.
In 1927, the 2,200 seat theatre opened in North Lawndale, Illinois, with a screening of "A Girl from Rio". After being purchased by a company controlled by Frank "The Enforcer" Nitti, one of Al Capone's cohorts, in the mid 1930s, the Lawndale was used primarily as a movie theatre during the 1940s. It changed hands several times before it reopened as the Rena Theatre in 1949. In 1961, it closed permanently after a gang leader was shot and killed in one of the main stairwells. In the summer of 2014, the Lawndale was demolished.
