The brewery was founded in 1873. The Bayerische Bierbrauerei vorm. Wilhelm Struck & Co. was taken over at incorporation. In the following years, the brewery took over several other local competitors: Gildebrauerei (1917), Victoriabrauerei (1920), Löwenbrauerei vorm. Peter Overbeck (1920) and Germaniabrauerei AG (1922). The Apollinaris-Brunnen AG was taken over in 1956, the Germania-Brauerei F. Dieninghoff AG in Münster in 1963 and the Schwabenbräu AG in Düsseldorf in 1968/70. The company merged with the Schultheiss Brewery to form the Dortmunder Union Schultheiss Brauerei AG in 1972. This meant the creation of the largest German beverage company. Since 1988, the name of the company has been Brau und Brunnen AG. This became part of the Radeberger-Group in 2004. |
