Die Gesellschaft war seinerzeit das größte Handelsunternehmen Spaniens. Die fünf Gilden, Schmuck-, Kurzwaren-, Seiden-, Tuch- und Wollhändler, wirtschafteten zunächst selbständig. Im Jahr 1679 erfolgte der Zusammenschluss, aber erst 1763 wurde die Handelsgesellschaft der fünf großen Gilden von Madrid gegründet. Legt man die Steuerkraft zu Grunde, belegten die fünf unter den 58 Gilden tatsächlich die ersten fünf Plätze, gefolgt von der Gilde der Börsenmakler. Die Aktivitäten erstreckten sich von Europa bis Asien und Amerika. Die Gesellschaft wurde 1846 aufgelöst. | |||

At that time the company was the biggest trading company of Spain. At first the five guilds jewellery, haberdashery, silk, draperies and wool merchants made their business on their own. In 1679, they merged, but the trading company of the five big gilds was founded in Madrid only in 1763. Based on tax revenues these five gilds took the first five places of the 58 existing gilds, followed by the gild of the stock brokers. Their activities spread from Europe to Asia and America. In 1846, the company was liquidated. | |||
