 Die Industrielle Revolution führte zu einem rasch wachsdenden Bedarf an Kohle und Eisen, welches in der Region von Forest of Dean im Süden von Wales vorhanden war. Allerdings gab es zu dieser Zeit keine passenden Transportmöglichkeiten. Am 5. Mai 1809 wurde die Bullo Pill Railway Company gegründet um auf einer 7,5 Meilen langen Eisenbahnlinie von Bullo Pill nach Cinderford Bridge Kohle und Eisenerz bis zum Fluß Severn zu transportieren. Der dafür notwendige Tunnel wurde 1810 fertiggestellt. Er war 1.083 Yard lang und der längste seiner Zeit. Die Rezession in Folge der Napoleonischen Kriege brachte die Gesellschaft in finanzielle Schwierigkeiten. Am 5. Mai 1826 wurde daher ein Gesetz erlassen, das die Umwandlung in eine Aktiengesellschaft unter die Umbenennung in Forest of Deal Railway Company beschloss. Die stärkte die finanzielle Situation der Gesellschaft. 1849 wurde die Bahnlinie von der South Wales Railway, einer Tochter der Great Western Railway, aufgekauft.

 The Industrial Revolution caused a high demand for coal and iron, which was available in the region of the Forest of Dean in South Wales. But there was no adequate transport. Therefore a private 7.5 miles long railway from Bullo Pill to Cinderford Bridge was built by the Bullo Pill Railway Company, which was incorporated on 5 May 1809. It was planned to transport the output to the river Severn. Therefore a tunnel was necessary. The 1,083 yard long tunnel was completed in 1810. It was the longest tunnel in the world at that time. Due to the recession, caused by the Napoleonic Wars, the company came into financial difficulties. A Act of Parliament on 5 May 1826 turned the company into a public company, named Forest of Deal Railway Company. This strengthened the financial situation of the company. The railway was bought by the South Wales Railway, a subsidiary of the Great Western Railway, in 1849.
