 Ende 1845 gab es in Großbritannien nicht weniger als 620 prospektierte Eisenbahngesellschaften. Die Thames Embankment & Railway Junction Company war eine davon. Mit dem Boom kam auch der Schwindel. Im Falle der Platzierung aller Aktien hätte die Firma über 1,8 Millionen Pfund verfügt. Bei Baukosten von 20.000 Pfund pro Meile war die Summe völlig überzogen vor dem Hintergrund, dass die Gesellschaft lediglich eine kurze Linie im Herzen Londons bauen wollte.
History (English)
 There were no fewer than 620 proposed railway companies in Britain at the end of 1845. The Thames Embankment & Railway Junction Company was one of them. The boom also attracted frauds. If all shares were placed, the company would have 1.8 Million Pounds. Building costs were at round about 20,000 Pounds per mile at that time. The share capital was far too high, assuming a short railway in the centre of London.
