 Ein 30jähriger Mann namens Herbert Austin war einst Manager eines Unternehmens namens Wolseley Sheep Shearing Company. Stets an Motoren und Automobilen interessiert, entwarf er 1895 dann auch sein erstes eigenes Auto. Weitere Autos sollten mit der Zeit folgen, ehe Austin 1905 schließlich seine eigene Austin Motor Company gründete. 1914 in Wolseley Motor Company umbenannt agierte seine frühere Firma noch bis 1927, ehe sie von Nuffield übernommen wurde. Weitere Übernahmen sollten folgen, wodurch sie in zahlreiche größere Unternehmen eingegliedert wurde. Der Name Wolseley blieb jedoch bis 1975 als Exklusivmarke bestehen.
History (English)
 Once upon a time there was a 30 year old guy named Herbert Austin who was employed as a works manager at the Wolseley Sheep Shearing Company. Being interested in engines and automobiles he designed his first car in 1895. Several followed while Austin was managing the “new” Wolseley company for some further years. In 1905 Austin resigned and founded his own company - the Austin Motor Company. Being renamed in Wolseley Motor Company in 1914 his prior company operated until 1927. The takeover by Nuffield was not the only merger, further new owners should follow: It was incorporated into several larger companies but the Wolseley name still remained as an upmarket marque until 1975.
