History (German)
 Lange war man der Meinung gewesen, die Teepflanze stamme ausschließlich aus China und Japan. Umso sensationeller war es, als um das Jahr 1820 herum in der Provinz Assam im Norden Indiens wildwachsende Teebüsche entdeckt wurden. Die robuste und großblättrige Pflanze wurde dem Fundort entsprechend als "thea assamica" bezeichnet und fortan kultiviert. Heute ist Assam sowohl von der Fläche als auch von der Produktion her (fast 400.000 Tonnen Tee pro Jahr) eines der größten zusammenhängenden Tee-Anbaugebiete der Welt.
History (English)
 For a long time only China and Japan were known as teas’ originating countries. Therefore it was more than a sensation when around 1820 wild growing tea plants were discovered in the Province of Assam (Northern India). The cultivation of the plant named "thea assamica" began. Nowadays relating to its size and production capacity (almost 400,000 tons of tea per year) Assam is one of the biggest connected tea growing areas in the world.
