 Wie schon sein Vater, Rear Admiral Pringle Stoddart, strebte auch James Stoddart (1813 - 1892) eine Karriere in der Marine an. Er trat der Royal Navy bereits im Alter von 13 Jahren bei und diente auf einer Vielzahl von Schiffen - so zum Beispiel 1842 auf der "Cornwallis" in der Schlacht um Zhenjiang. Darüber hinaus widmete sich Stoddart in seiner Freizeit der Kunst. So wurden viele seiner Zeichnungen von Hong Kong und China zur Illustration von Thomas Alloms "China Illustrated" (das zwischen 1843 und 1847 in insgesamt vier Ausgaben erschien) verwendet.
History (English)
 Like his father Rear Admiral Pringle Stoddart, James Stoddart (1813 - 1892) also pursued a naval career. He entered the Royal Navy at the age of 13 and served on many ships like the "Cornwallis" in the Battle of Chinkiang in 1842. More about that, Stoddart was an accomplished amateur artist and many of his drawings of Hong Kong and China were used to illustrate Thomas Allom's "China Illustrated" (which was printed in four volumes in London between 1843 and 1847).
