 William S. Kahnweiler wurde als Sohn deutscher Immigranten im amerikanischen Wilmington, North Carolina, geboren. Er war Kaufmann und unternahm im Rahmen seiner Geschäftstätigkeit mit Schiffen der HAPAG mehrere Reisen nach Hamburg. Über die Jahre baute er eine Sammlung von Kunstgegenständen auf, die heute als "William S. Kahnweiler Collection" bekannt ist.
History (English)
 William S. Kahnweiler was born as son of German immigrants in Wilmington, North Carolina. In the course of his merchant business he often travelled to Hamburg, Germany, with ships of the HAPAG line. Over the years he built up a collection of art objects, which is known as the "William S. Kahnweiler Collection" today.
