 Blockade Runners waren Dampfschiffe, die während des amerikanischen Bürgerkriegs die rund 3.500 Meilen lange Seeblockade der Unionstruppen entlang des Atlantiks, des Golf von Mexiko sowie am Unterlauf des Mississippi durchbrachen. Die Gesellschaft unterhielt insgesamt fünf Schiffe, die zwischen Liverpool und New York und Charleston verkehrten. George Trenholm war zwischen dem 18. April 1864 und dem 27. April 1865 Finanzminister im Kabinett von Jefferson Davis.
History (English)
 The blockade runners of the American Civil War were seagoing steam ships that were used to make their way through the Union blockade that extended some 3,500 miles along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coastlines and the lower Mississippi River. By 1860, the company had five seagoing vessels, making shipping runs from Liverpool to New York and Charleston and back again. George Trenholm was minister of finance in the government of Jefferson Davis between 18 July 1864 and 27 April 1865.
