 William Steinway wurde 1835 als Wilhelm Steinweg in Seesen, Herzogtum Braunschweig geboren. 1850 wanderte er mit seinem Vater Heinrich Steinweg (Henry E. Steinway) in die USA aus. 1825 baute Steinweg sein erstes Tafelklavier, das er seiner Braut Juliane zur Hochzeit schenkte. 1836 entstand der erste Flügel. Nachdem Henry Steinway in den USA zunächst für einige Klavierfabriken arbeitete, gründete er 1854 seine Firma Steinway and Sons. Heute lautet die Firma Steinway Musical Instruments. Sie gehört seit 2013 zu John Paulsons & Co.
History (English)
 William Steinway was born as Wilhelm Steinweg in Seesen, duchy of Braunschweig, Germany, in 1835. Together with his father Heinrich Steinweg (Henry E. Steinway) he immigrated in the United States in 1850. Henry Steinway manufactured his first square piano in 1825. It was a wedding gift for his bride Juliane. He built his first grand piano in 1836. Henry E. Steinway worked for several piano manufacturers after he immigrated to the United States. He founded his company Steinway and Sons in 1854. The name of the company was changed to Steinway Musical Instruments later. The company is part of John Paulsons & Co. since 2013.
