	Das Institut wurde 1889 zum Betrieb von Bankgeschäften und zur Förderung des Handelsverkehrs zwischen Deutschland und Asien gegründet. 1906 erhielt die Bank das Recht, Banknoten im Schutzgebiet Kiautschou und in China auszugeben. Letzter Großaktionär war die Deutsche Bank.
	The bank was founded in 1889. It supported the trade between Germany and Asia. The bank was allowed to issue an own currency in the German colony of Kiautschou and in China after 1906. The Deutsche Bank was the last major shareholder.
