 Die Panama Eisenbahn sollte damals die erste transkontinentale Verkehrsverbindung in Amerika werden. Die Firma wurde 1849 in New York gegründet und erhielt von Kolumbien eine bis 1966 befristete Konzession für die Überquerung des amerikanischen Kontinents an seiner schmalsten Stelle. Die Linie wurde 1855 fertig gestellt und war hinsichtlich der Baukosten die seinerzeit teuerste Bahnverbindung der Welt.
History (English)
 The Panama Rail Road was planned to be the first transcontinental traffic connection in America. The company was founded in New York in 1849. It got a concession from Columbia to cross the American continent at its smallest position. The concession was valid until 1966. The line was finished in 1855. It was the most expensive railway of the world at that time.
