 Diese Bonds wurden ausgegeben, um den Bau des Eriekanals sowie dessen Vergrößerung zu finanzieren. Dafür war der Staat New York bereit, den Investoren einen Zins von 5% auf ihr investiertes Kapital zu bezahlen.
