 At his time Lewis C. Bates was one of the leading business men in New Haven, Connecticut. He started his business (very likely a family business) in 1879. While he noticed many companies producing and dealing perishable food like butter, cheese and eggs he seems to have been running a cold storage in the city of New Haven.
