 James Boorman Colgate (1818 - 1904), Sohn des Colgate-Palmolive-Gründers William Colgate, war ein amerikanischer Finanzier. Aus einer im Jahr 1852 mit dem Wall Street-Pionier John Bond Trevor (1822 - 1890) eingegangenen Partnerschaft entstand ein Bankhaus, welches sowohl mit Wertpapieren als auch mit Edelmetallen handelte. Es wickelte während des Amerikanischen Bürgerkriegs den Großteil des Handels ab und Colgate wurde zu einem der Gründer der New York Gold Exchange sowie für mehrere Jahre deren Präsident. 1873 wurde die Firma in J. B. Colgate and Company umbenannt. In der in eben jenem Jahr herrschenden Finanzkrise gewährte sie der Regierung im großen Stil Anleihen und leistete damit letztlich einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Rückkehr des Vertrauens in die Märkte in den USA wie auch in Europa.

 James Boorman Colgate (1818 - 1904), son of Colgate-Palmolive founder William Colgate, was an American financier. In 1852, he formed a partnership with Wall Street pioneer John Bond Trevor (1822 - 1890). Their banking house dealt in stocks and securities as well as precious metals. It regulated a large portion of the gold and paper exchange during the Civil War - and Colgate became one of the founders of the New York Gold Exchange and its president for several years. The firm changed its name to J. B. Colgate and Company in 1873. Even this year it granted extensive loans to the federal government during the financial crisis of 1873, which materially contributed to the reestablishment of confidence both in the US and the European markets.
