 Die 1918 gegründete Gesellschaft war die Keimzelle der heute mächtigen Eisen- und Stahlindustrie Indiens. 1936 übernahm die Gesellschaft die Bengal Iron Company. 1953 wurde die Steel Corporation of Bengal übernommen. In den 1970er Jahren wurde die Firma dann von der staatlichen Steel Authority of India übernommen.

 The company was founded in 1918. It was the nucleus of today's Indian powerful steel industry. In 1936 the company took over the Bengal Iron Company and in 1953 the company bought the Steel Corporation of Bengal. In the 1970th the company was taken over by the state owned Steel Authority of India.
