 Die Gesellschaft wurde 1895 vom Unternehmer Harry John Lawson gegründet. Über das Unternehmen wollte Lawson Geld einwerben um dann von Gottlieb Daimler die Patente zu erwerben und auf diesem Weg ein Monopol für bezingetriebene Fahrzeuge zu errichten. Bereits 1901 musste die Firma aber als British Motor Traction Company reorganisiert werden.

 The British Motor Syndicate Limited was formed by entrepreneur Harry John Lawson in 1895. Lawson's aim was to use the company to raise funds from the public to establish a business with a monopoly on petrol-driven cars by acquiring as many patents as possible from Gottlieb Daimler. The company was reorganized as British Motor Traction Company in 1901.
