 Oskar II. von Schweden wohnte 1881 im englischen Bournemouth einer wichtigen Grundsteinlegung bei. Vier Jahre später eröffnete das weltberühmte Mont Dore Hotel - benannt nach dem Thermalbadeort in der französischen Auvergne. Seine heißen und kalten Bäder wurden mit herbeigeführtem Meerwasser gespeist. Dabei lag es in unmittelbarer Nähe des Sanatoriums und bot ein luxuriöses Wellnessangebot für Reiche. Während des Ersten Weltkriegs wurde es in ein Militärkrankenhaus umgewandelt, welches 1919 jedoch geschlossen wurde. 1921 zog dann der Stadtrat von Bournemouth in das Gebäude ein, woran sich bis heute nichts geändert hat: Das Gebäude dient auch heute immer noch als Rathaus.

 In 1881, King Oscar II of Sweden laid an important foundation stone in Bournemouth, Dorset, South West England. Four years later the world famous Mont Dore Hotel - named after the French spa town in the Auvergne - was opened. It had hot and cold baths supplied with sea water and was built next to the Sanatorium as a sumptuous health spa primarily for rich consumptives. During the First World War it became a military hospital, which was closed in 1919. In 1921, the Borough Council moved to the former hotel, which it still occupies as the building still is the Town Hall.
