 Die Gesellschaft wurde 1850 gegründet um Goldlagerstätten in Kalifornien auszubeuten und zu vermarkten. Die Aktionäre sollten 80 Prozent der Nettogewinne erhalten, aber wie so oft sahen sie keinen Cent.
