 Die Gesellschaft wurde 1912 gegründet um die Killifreth Tin Mines in der Nähe von Redruth, Cornwall, zu übernehmen. Die kleine Marktgemeinde spielte keine Rolle, bis im Laufe des 18. Jahrhunderts ein Boom bei Kupfererz einsetzte. Bis dorthin schenkten die kornischen Zinnminen dem als Nebenprodukt anfallenden Kupfer wenig Beachtung. Die Nachfrage aus der Messingproduktion änderte diesen Umstand jedoch.

 In 1912, the company was registered to acquire the Killifreth Tin Mines near Redruth, Cornwall. The small market town was overshadowed by its neighbours until a boom in the demand for copper ore during the 18th century. Initially copper ore had mostly been discarded by the Cornish tin-mining industry, but was now needed to make brass, an essential metal in the Industrial Revolution.
