 Die Bank, die noch bis heute besteht, wurde bereits 1859 als eine der ersten Aktienbanken gegründet. Die Gründer waren die deutschen Bankiers Abraham Oppenheim, Heinrich Mevissen und Raphael Erlanger. Die Oppenheims waren auch der größte Aktionär.

 The bank, which still exists today, was founded in 1859. It was one of the first banks on basis of shares. Founder were the German bankers Abraham Oppenheim, Heinrich Mevissen and Raphael Erlanger. The Oppenheims were also the major shareholder.
