 Fannie Mae heißt eigentlich Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA), tritt aber überall unter ihrem Spitznamen Fannie Mae auf. Die Hypothekenbank wurde 1938 als staatseigene Bank gegründet und 1968 privatisiert. Im Rahmen der Finanzkrise ab 2007 geriet die Bank ins Straucheln, wurde aber durch staatliche Rettungsmaßnahmen gestützt.

 The Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA) is commonly known as Fannie Mae. It was founded 1938, as state owned mortgage bank. It became a publicly traded company in 1968. Fannie Mae got large problems during the financial crises which began in 2007. The US government took steps to bolster confidence into Fannie Mae.
