 Die 1840 gegründete Gesellschaft hatte ihren Sitz in London. Sie gehörte zu den ersten von mehreren Firmen, die Minen in der Hunter Region in New South Wales (Australien) errichteten. In der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts entwickelte sich die Firma zu einem führenden Kohleförderer der Region.

 The company was founded in 1840, headquartered in London. It was amongst the first of several firms to seek mining opportunities in the Hunter region of New South Wales (Australia). It became one of the leading coal producers in the region in the second half of the nineteenth century.
