 Francis Hopkinson (1737 - 1791) entwarf die erste offizielle Flagge der Vereinigten Staaten, Continental paper money sowie die erste US-Münze. Der Autor und Dichter war auch Mitunterzeichner der Unabhängigkeitserklärung der Vereinigten Staaten. William Bingham (1752 - 1804) erarbeitete sich bereits in jungen Jahren ein Vermögen in Westindien. Nach seiner Rückkehr in die Vereinigten Staaten gründete er 1781 die Pennsylvania Bank. Als President der Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike war er einer der Pioniere des amerikanischen Straßenbaus. Die Gesellschaft kassierte noch bis 1911 Mautgebühren, ehe der Staat Pennsylvania die Firma übernahm. Bingham durfte noch selbst die Früchte seiner harten Arbeit ernten: Er war der erste Dollar-Millionär.

 Francis Hopkinson (1737 - 1791) designed the first official American flag, Continental paper money, and the first U.S. coin. He was an author, a composer, and one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence in July 1776. William Bingham (1752 - 1804) already compiled a fortune in the West Indies in his younger years. After his return to the US, he founded the Pennsylvania Bank in 1781. As president of the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike, he was one of the pioneers of the American road construction. The company collected tolls until 1911, until the state of Pennsylvania took over the company. Bingham himself was still able to enjoy the fruits of his labour: He was the first Dollar millionaire.
