 Die Gesellschaft wurde 1853 gegründet. Dabei wurden nur 130 Aktien zu je 10 Pfund ausgegeben. Als erstes Schiff wurde die „Hilda“ angeschafft. Diese Investition verschlang jedoch schon fast das gesamte Aktienkapital. Über eine Kapitalerhöhung wurde ein weiteres Schiff finanziert. Beide Boote wurden im Fahrgastverkehr zwischen Whitby und Hartlepool eingesetzt. 1865 wurde parallel zum Schiffsweg eine Eisenbahnlinie gebaut. Die Schifffahrt wurde daher immer weniger rentabel und schließlich nicht mehr konkurrenzfähig. Daher wurde die Gesellschaft 1867 liquidiert.

 The company was incorporated in 1853. It issued only 130 shares at £ 10 each. The company bought the ship Hilda. For this investment the company had to use almost all of its share capital. Therefore it made several capital increases to finance a further ship. Both ships were used for a line between Whity and Hartlepool. A railway was build parallel to the ship line in 1865. This meant heavy competition for the company. The company could no longer compete with the railway. For this reason the company went into liquidation in 1867.
