 Der „Mephisto von Wall Street“ und Sohn eines armen Farmers erlangte in New York schnell den Ruf eines gerissenen Geschäftsmannes. Zusammen mit James Fisk und Daniel Drew lieferte er sich zahlreiche Schlachten um die Vorherrschaft bei verschiedenen Firmen, vor allem Eisenbahnlininen. In die Geschichte ging vor allem der Kampf um die Erie Railroad ein. Für seine Finanzoperationen benötigte Gould meist größere Beträge. Da er ständig knapp bei Kasse war, arrangierte er meist die Finanzierung über Russell Sage (siehe auch die beiden vorhergehende Lose).

 Original signature of Jay Gould (affected by the cancellation) as president. An additional and intact signature of Jay Gould can be found on the reverse. The „Mephisto of Wall Street“ and son of a poor farmer quickly earned the reputation of a cunning businessman in New York. Together with James Fisk and Daniel Drew, he often battled for the domination in several firms, particularly railway lines. The battle for the Erie Railroad will definitely go in the history books. Gould mostly needed larger contributions for his financial operations. Since he was often short of cash, he arranged for the financing through Russel Sage most of the time.
