 William C. Whitney (1841 - 1904) hat zusammen mit Samuel Tilden den Tweed Ring gesprengt, die Behörden von New York reorganisiert und von Korruption befreit. Er wurde dann vor allem im Straßenbahn- und Energiegeschäft reich. Von 1885 - 1889 war er amerikanischer Schiffahrtsminister und bis zum Ende des Jahrhunderts wichtigster Berater des amerikanischen Präsidenten Grover Cleveland.

 Issued in the name of William C. Whitney and signed by him in the back. Together with Samuel Tilden, William C. Whitney (1841-1904) shattered the Tweed Ring and re-organized the public authorities of New York, relieving them from corruption. His wealth developed mainly from the tramway and energy businesses. From 1885 until 1889 he was the American secretary of navigation and until the end of the century he was the most important advisor of the American president Grover Cleveland.
